Interview with Marianas Trench

Vancouver-based rockers Marianas Trench may be a newer name to American audiences, but don’t let that fool you. With three studio albums, platinum status on three songs and one album, and arena tours, they are far from being amateurs. Having cracked the code on Canada, the band’s been trying their hand at America, promoting their latest album ‘Ever After’ on Simple Plan’s Get Your Heart On Tour last fall before heading out on their own this spring, as well as taking part in the Journey’s Backyard BBQ Tour. It was at the latter tour’s Nashville stop that we caught up with the ever-busy group to discuss their current and future tours, the pros of already conquering one audience, and how the Southern heat was treating them.

Marianas Trench - “Fallout”

Canadian pop rockers Marianas Trench debuted the video for their second single — the first since the release of their album ‘Ever After’ in November — on February 1 via MTV. The album tells the story of a man who finds himself trapped in a fairytale feud with an evil heart-stealing queen in a continuous flow of music that has every song cycling into the next without a break. The video for “Fallout” follows lead singer Josh Ramsay as he dodges explosions and memories set off by a recent breakup.

Much like the album, the band plans to make all the videos line up to make sense continuously, Ramsay said in an interview for MTV’s Push. “This one’s a little more abstract. It’s not quite as literally right out of the story as the first one is, but there’s definitely still elements of it for sure. I think later when people see all the videos from the record, it’s going to be cool and all line up.”

Ever After - “Hammerhead”

North Carolina-based metalcore act Ever After will be releasing their forthcoming EP, ‘What Matters Most,’ on January 17. For a taste of what’s to come, check out “Hammerhead” on their Facebook page.

In a press statement, guitarist Tyler Davis explained, “The song is about a past relationship that ruined you and made you miserable to the point where you were resenting them. Then, after everything is over, they are still coming back for more and you’re just telling this specific person that they’ve ruined you, made your friends and family angry, and taken your life down a path you never wanted to go down.”

Ever After Reveal New EP Artwork

Shown above is the cover art for Ever After’s second EP, ‘What Matters Most.’ The 5-track effort, which was recorded at Think Sound Studios, will be released on January 17.

“We tried to make our sound progress as much as possible without turning into an entirely new band,” remarked guitarist Tyler Davis in a statement. “We wanted to be the same Ever After but take everything up about ten notches, as cliché as that sounds.” Davis also explained, “The biggest change in our sound was the addition of Diego and Tony to take over our vocals. Diego is a great singer and Tony is awesome at his screaming so it brought a new, different sound to the band.”
